what you are seeing on Himmler is one black tunic, for the Allgemine-SS, and a field grey tunic for the Waffen-SS.

Generally, the Allgemine SS was a pre-war force, and they wore the black tunics ( not only for parade but also for "duty"). but there also were still a few "blackies" around during the war. The Waffen-SS started out as the SS-VT, and wore field grey tunics. The cut of the tunic varied, Enlisted men were issued uniforms while officers had to buy their own, creating an even bigger variance in style & cut. Many were tailored afterward as well. I have a Waffen SS cavalry officer tunic that was shortened, as it was the style of the time and more practical when on a horse.

But about 6 shelves of my library are devoted to the SS. it is a complex subject with conflicting regulations.
