Yes, the Suhl gang and the only Berlin maker Haco definitely used outstanding wood for their grips.
As you said, Sauer was a gun maker (still is) and Suhl was a weapon town so the best stocks of wood were to be found there, obviously for Kober and Haenel as well Smile

Those grips are most likely made of Oak, German Birch or maybe maple. The Sauer grips seem to be a little different than Kober and Haenel,IMO.
We seldom see cracks or chips on grips from the Suhl gang or Haco.
Grip to cross guard fittings is always tight because there is almost no shrinking on this type of hardwood when compare to other type of woods from other makers.
