I recall a similar case where a Mercedes Benz was sold at auction in the US to a European buyer. When the Mercedes was delivered to Europe, it was immediately confiscated as it had been stolen from a German during WWII. The Mercedes was returned to the original owners family. So there are laws in the EU to address this. I think/Dave is correct, start with the French police.
