There are a few stories about this ring. One involving a 13th Cen Duke in the Baltics,,another that its a Latvian folk ring given to a young man by his Father. And,,the last,,that directly postwar some of the Latvian 'Forrest Brothers' , Latvian anti-Communist Freedom fighters were wearing them..

If I can make little correction. Name Namejs ring comes from A.Grins book "Namejs ring" 1931. Two rings of this design were found at Daugmales hillfort in 1938. Dated 12th or begining of 13th century. Almost 100 years before Duke Namejs. At time of actual Duke Namejs these rings were not used anymore, but legend was born. It is not known if these were made before ww2, but they widespread at POV and DP camps in western occupation zone in Germany after ww2. With time it become sign of recognition of Latvians. Since 1956 they were given in to Latvian officers organization founded in Melbourne. Later there started tradition of giving these rings to sons when they become 18th.

In soviet occupied Latvia these rings become popular only at the end of 80ies and 90ies.

So this is not true that these were used by Latvian 'Forrest Brothers' , Latvian anti-Communist Freedom fighters etc.

There are less original rings than you think, much less...
