Hey Fitzer,
Can't say I've seen either of those knots before. The first one with leather strap has a color scheme that is most curious, the strap and stem lead me to believe it's Weimar era but the attribution is beyond me. The red strapped knot is also a puzzle and I agree with you that it might not be German at all. Hoping ORPO chimes in with an opinion.
Regarding portepee references, George Wheeler's "Seitengewehr" has an excellent section on knots but they would be limited to mostly German with a little bit of Austrian thrown in.
