A novel I was reading mentioned highly polished Lugers intended for presentation.
Did such exist ?
Dave Sounds like the author didn't know too much. Highly polished to me means just a finely finished commercial production, rather than run of the mill military or such. Presentation to me means a plate or inscription of some sort to show the presentation. A noted author of Krieghoff Lugers showed some finely engraved examples in his book. Can't remember if they were inscribed. As Andy pointed out, the smaller caliber pistols were more popular, as they were easier to decorate and readily available on the commercial market. What many don't remember is that 9mm Parabellum weapons were considered instruments of war and not permitted to be owned by civilians under German law. So, Walther PPs and PPKs were engraved nicely as were some other pocket model pistols like the Sauers, Menz and others.
"This hobby is a continuing education" Looking for Walther Model 8 #727649 and Walther PP #975557
