I showed the pictures of the ring to Don Boyle many years ago and he said it was a legit. ring(and he could tell even from these pictures). He was non-committal on the rest of the information. At this time who knows? I wish I had pushed the antiques dealer harder (over 20 years ago) even if all I could do was take better pictures. As far as the story goes; IMO it would be hard to come up with something this credible and, understanding the type of people involved, what would have been the point? There were a lot of strange and bizarre happening at the end of the War and this could have been one of them. BTW: IMO: The obscure letters referred to in the documentation were likely Slb which preceded the recipients name. I wanted to share this with the rest of you and NO I don't have a firm opinion here.
