No chance of it being preserved.
If they tried, the usual suspects would complain about it becoming a shrine ect.
As mentioned, its only a chunk of decaying concrete from another era, probably best to just bust it up and scrap it as planned. Would be nice though to see some period pics of it, along with the monument it was alleged to have supported.
I'd sure like to do some metal detecting in that vicinity, no telling what lurks beneath the grass.
