Wotan,
Thanks for your comment. Are you referring to the "ä" in the abbreviation for Jäger, thinking it might be an "ö"?
I'm attaching a few additional photos (one a repeat) for a second look. I don't know if it will help or not, but maybe it gives a slightly clearer confirmation of what you are saying.
