I've seen blades that have been whizzed (zipped?) and re-crossgrained. Nothing that I see in these photos suggest that was done here.

If you think about it rationally, what is the reason that blades are tuned up to begin with? Usually because some bad pitting, staining or other such damage has taken place. Nothing on this blade indicates anything like that was ever present. In addition, the condition of the blade is consistent with rest of the dagger and scabbard. Also, there are small areas near the lower crossguard and in the motto that show some light pitting and staining. Why weren't these cleaned up if the blade was fooled with?
