Hello All, I have recently seen an 84/98na bayo that is unit marked 24.DE.166,my best guess on this,so far,is an Ersatz Battalion of Leib-Dragoner-Regiment(2 Grossherzog-Hessisches)Nr24.There are,I expect, numerous other possibilities, but I can't say I've come across many 84/98na bayos with a regimental marking of any description. They are, perhaps, uncommon on most wartime produced pieces and are therefore a little more desirable. The dealer who has this particular bayo certainly seems to think so,as he's asking about twice the normal price for such a thing!!!Before I convince yet another dealer that there's one born every minute,I'm asking myself if it's been messed with? The hilt and about 20mm of the ricasso has been blued and the blade left bright, and as far as I know, bayonets reissued after 1918 were blued overall,is that the case??? Chris.
