I like your bayonet, too! I have a Kar98k byf44 which by serial number and components was made during the earlier part of that year. The piece was acquired via an ad in Shotgun News during the mid-1980s. Those fortunate enough to have collected back then and beyond may wax nostalgic about anxiously awaiting their next issue and what they might hope to find within it's pages. Of course now with The Internet, and everything seemingly going the auction route things aren't the same, but I digress...
When I received the rifle, I noticed it had a tint of green to the stock, and discovered it had been painted completely forest green at some time in the past. Thankfully removal of the paint had not harmed the wood, but it is unfortunate it had been done at all...
