The Tapper og Tro medal was instituted by Quisling as a bravery award for Norwegian frontfighters, those Norwegians who fought against the Russians while serving in the German armed forces.

There were three classes of this award, Knight's Cross, and a First and Second Class.

Shortly after the first few were awarded, the Germans forbade it to be worn by members of their military, since they wanted the Iron Cross to be the military bravery award.
