The blade is stamped on the reverse with the correct #, so I don't think the blade is a replacement. But it sounds like the fact that the etch was made post war is confirmed. Now I am wondering if I can buff the maker mark right off!

If it is a bad etch though (which I now believe) it is interesting that it is EXACTLY the same etch found on the olympic knives. Just as crisp, just as clear, and even the depth of the etch is the same as the olympic pieces....
