I have examined the grip under a 10 power loupe and that are no traces of paint. I have examined quite a few "black gripped Army" daggers in the past 35 years. Grips with traces of paint have the later Klaas fittings like Craig's example. The few I have seen with no paint traces are the earlier Klaas fittings. I think the dagger and the hangers are an interesting variation regardless of what it's called
