Anybody seen a W-SS or other visor cap that has a rough texture on the underside of the visor? I'm not talking about the usually seen cross-hatch or waffle pattern, but something that looks more like a "sand finish" on a helmet. A very rough texture with no apparent pattern. I would like to know if such a finish is authentic to the period, or known to be seen on repro's. Thanks in advance.

seems to me I saw repros in the late 70s-early 80s with a "calomine lotion"- colored underbill with sandy texture. The repros were marked as such. Well-made, they were.

How many by now have had the "bang-it-up good" aging treatment and are sold as real - who knows?

Yes, I have seen one of those recently that has an "Erel" label. Nice quality. The one I am interested in is black on the underside of the visor. It shows much wear, age and mothing, but all of that could have been "artificially" applied. I have not found a visor with such a finish in the reference books I have, nor do I recall having ever seen one known to be authentic.
