Nice little find here a WKC 2nd model Luft with character. My Question is when did they stop grinding the tang to fit the grip?

I dont see any problems hear looks like a nice WKC.Sometimes the gilt on these turn black but can not tell if thats the case maybe just the coating worn off in places. Throat is a different color is it the standard WKC type?

You normally dont see much if any grinding on the later stepped tangs just the early tapered. Contraire to popular belief tapered tangs were used on 2nd model Luftwaffes although you wont find a mention of this in Toms Luftwaffe book

Hi Tom, If you mean the scabbard throat, don't quote me but i do believe WKC used a black coating on the luft scabbard throats when the scabbard had the dark airplane gray finish. This is the second one i have seen this year and it looks very cool so i bought it. One thing that is a nice sight is the aged dark orange brown grip, my pictures don't do the dagger justice. Thanks for the info on the tang, i was going in circles looking through my reference books.
Eric

Hi Rich, Very comforting to see another tang like mine, i also noticed the grip is about the same color too. Very nice display!!!
Anyone else have a WKC with the black scabbard throat.

Hey Guys, That rainbow effect that you see on the tang is from the heat of the grinding wheel. When the heat builds up, the tang starts to glow, and when cooling down, has this rainbow effect. I`ve seen this on other daggers of mine, so its not just a WKC trait Cheers, Dion
