I've just purchased these two Faithfull Service Crosses, with cases - a 25 year and a 40 year. Both crosses are in great condition with frosting and enamel intact. Any comments welcome - thanks for looking.

They look very nice from what I can see. Now you need the 50Yr.
In answer to you question, I don't really know. In theory, if they were made by different makers then there should be slight differences between their crosses. I don't know if anyone has carried out research on these yet.
Cheers Don

Hello, Russell! I have the twin to your 25 yr. cross, same maker! I think these are neat and the quality is excellent, not to mention they're relatively cheap! I only paid $60 for mine, of course that was about 5 yrs ago. Regards, teufel

Thanks for the comments and the links. I agree teufel, these are relatively in-expensive and great looking medals. To get them in original cases is also a plus. I've always liked the look of these but had never bought any before - now I need to find the 50 year to make the set.
Does anyone know how many, and who the various makers are for these awards? It would be good to see pics of other makers of these awards posted here as well.
Regards Russell

I can be of little assistance, my cased 25 is not marked. My cased 40 is also by Deschler & Sohn Munchen. My 50 is sans case.

I have rarely seen a 50 year Don how common are they? I myself do really like these medals very elegant design IMHO. I have owned many 25 and 40 years but only have one left and it is unmarked.

They don't turn up every day, especially cased, I must admit. There's usually one or two floating about at any one time.

Don, three outstanding examples! Very Nice! Question: Did the 25 yr. cross ever come in the fancy hard, hinged case or was it relegated to the cardboard "box"? Regards, teufel

Teufel,
Thanks. It only came in the cardboard version as far as I know. There is a design variant though, you can find them with a slightly different style circle around the 25.

Very nice set of cased medals Don. Can you show the top of the case for the 50 year?
Also, do you know which maker has the design variant for the 25 year - do you have any pics of that one also?

Russell,
Reading my post again, I probably wasn't very clear. When I say that there was a design variant I mean with the box for the 25yr. There is an extra line in the cogwheel surrounding the number.
Here's the top of my 50yr box as requested.
Cheers Don

Thanks for the pic Don.
Lakesidetrader has a couple of 25 year medals with the variant on the case that you mention. One is a Souval and the other is not maker marked. They are both slightly different to each other as well.

Raymond, Very nice collection! re: the 25 yr. cased ones, 2 of the swaz's seem to be the same thickness, one seems to be a little thicker and the one on the far right is the thickest! Variations between manufacturers? Regards, teufel

Specialize...no.That's my bigest problem.I like all organizations and their regalia. I measured the thickness of the arms of the swastikas at the 12 o'clock posisition, just below the top arm: Keller- 3.12mm (black portion only 2.15mm) Karneth-2.96mm (black portion only 2.30mm) Wchtler3.19mm (black portion only 1.96mm) Deumer- 3.15mm (black portion only 2.38mm)

I forgot to say how great everyones crosses looked. These are very under appreciated.Check the rings on your 50 year crosses for a maker mark.At first I thought mine were unmarked but found both are marked #1.I have a feeling that Deschler was the only ,or principal maker.

Very nice collection Raymond! Nice to see some variations in the crosses by different makers. It's good to show these together in one place so we can all see the differences - hopefully we'll see some more crosses from other members too.

Excellent informative thread. Great effort all! Raymond, what is attached to the inside upper lid on the unmarked 40 yr. case? None of my medals are marked in any way. Nice to see a marked example. Don't forget the 16mm. miniatures. --dj--Joe

Thanks very much Raymond. I want to try and find some of the award documents to go with these crosses as well - have you had any luck finding the document for the 50?
I hope we will get some more posters on this thread showing their 25, 40 and 50 year crosses and cases. It would be great to see some more variations and makers.

Don and Raymonds cased 50's look in great condition. My one and many of the others I have seen generally have finishes that don't seem to stand up to the test of time. The gilting seems to hold up but the silver gains patina, often only on one side. Could this be put down to later production and poorer material to work with - it seems the 25's and 40's are often found in good condition, particularly when cased as well. Any thoughts on this?
Regards Russell

It's possible that the crosses tone differently because of the material they are made of(early vs. late production),enviornment they are stored in or a combination of both. To me they all look to be made from the same material but I haven't studied them that close.

Beautiful 40 year Billy - thanks for posting it. The other medal and case is a stunner - not too well versed on these, so is that the 25 year Police Service Medal - it's a beauty!!

Great looking crosses and a very informative thread. Here's mine. After reading your post's I believe my 25 is a Rudolf Karneth. The label is missing.

Very nice awards! The case on that 40 year is superb. The 50's are a little harder to find but they do come up occasionally.
Hope to see some more of these, so if you've got some, please share them here.

Thanks Joe,
The red flocking is firmly attached on this example. I noticed there is a 1st Class gold cross for 25 Years Police Service already posted so here is an example of the 2nd Class silver cross for 18 Years Police Service. This example is on a parade mount. Notice there is no police eagle on the 3rd Class award above, a silver eagle is on the ribbon of the 2nd Class and a gold eagle is on the ribbon of the 1st Class award.

I do appreciate the parade mounted pieces. I actually like the 18 yr. the best. But as a medal collector just have to pick up one of each. Nice ribbon bar. --dj--Joe

Yep, I like the fact that both blue long service ribbons are on one bar. Not often seen.
Below is a miniature version of the 8 Year Police long service award in the form of a stick pin.

You are certainly welcome Dave.
I guess I should also show a miniature of the 25 Years of Service cross so here is a minty example of that one.

Nice pins. I have observed examples in period sales catalogs. Looked through my pins but no police examples. Thanks for sharing.

deducting something,,,, that all the younger guys went to combat as you usually see the Police parade bars, ribbon bars, stic pin combos with WW1 medals, maybe a WestWall or Flower wars [?]..
- both Police Parade mounts shown here are very nice!
