Question, is the central disc a raised separately applied piece? I see no shadow.

The best I can do at the moment is a scan of an old picture of my example.

I don't remember any threads on telling original from repro on these. Of the 2 I have one is similar to yours and unmarked and the other is marked L/58.

Hello,
Joe & Raymond I thank you for your replies. I do believe that the disc with swastica is separately applied but I will see if I can get more information regarding it. Is there anything special to be on the lookout for regarding repros of these items. Lettering etc? And there should be two dots over the Fur correct? Again I thank you for your help and welcome any others info or comments regarding this badge.

Bill, I do not recall having read anything specific to look out for on repros of these awards. It may come down to a hands on inspection.

We'll see what you hear back and I will attempt to lay hands on my example and try for close up scans.

Hello
Joe,the disc apparently is separately applied. I initially was thinking about bidding on this item because the price was extremely good on it but have now decided I'll just wait and bide my time,I really would like to get a cased one actually. The price is still good on it but the auction is on for another 4 or 5 days and I bet there will be other bids placed. Probably still will go for a decent price but for myself I think I'll just wait. I do appreciate your help with this item and even though i probably will not buy this one your help and information will aid me in the future, As always I thank you for your help.

I've read that there should be no space between arms of the corss and letters "L" and "N" in word Loschwesen. These letters should touch arms of the cross.
Also I prefer FB crosses with ball instead or ring...I've seen "muzeum copies" with this ring - I don't know, i am not expert. Maybe it's ok but personally i would choose the unmarked one with ball and nice shiny lacquer and sharp defined letters.. Actually i hunting for nice one Wink

Cysior, I do not remember hearing about spacing between the arms and lettering being a concern. Do you recall where you read this?
As to my example none of the letters touch the arms of the cross.
It is an unmarked ball suspension type that shows prior wear much like it was originally on a medal bar. Even the swas. retains remnants of the protective lacquer.

Joe - about space between arms and letters - I had read this on WAF forum - but it was more like personal opinion of member. What about "U" in word FUR - is it umlaut, with dots?

Link to a repro Ist class Fire Service Cross.
Link gone to time.
No umlats.
The repro in question was the old W. KOLWITZ BERGEDORF M9/72 with the strangely shaped pin.

Recent link to a KOLWITZ example.

Joe, the link to the fake 1st class doesn't seem to be working????

Here's my early 1st class..... With Umlauts. Excuse the rainbow effect on top arm, glare from the scanner.

That's a great 1st class piece, one I still need to add to my collection. You just don't see too many of those out there, legitimate ones I mean. Here's a cased 2nd class with one my favorite bayonets.

Here's amother you may like to see.

Unfortunartely the glare makes it look gaudy & the letters soft. They are infact crisp & sharp with both sets of umlauts. It doesn't lay flat on the scanner which gives an odd effect to the shape of the lower crurves with the wording on as well Confused.

I have images taken with my camera somewhere, but I can't find them at the moment..... I'll keep hunting.

Cheers
Don

Thanks Billy, that's a lovely 2nd you've got there, believe it or not, I don't have that class yet! Eek

This still isn't the image I'm looking for but it will have to do until I find it. A little sharper than the one above, at least the umlauts are visible on the lower word this time Confused

Cheers

I would say the ribbon in question is probably just faded from sunight. A very nice looking trio IMO.

Cysior, the ribbon is faded. You have to credit the forum and the owner of a picture to use the image. Unless the image is yours or you have permission to use it. let us know if it is yours or you obtained permission and it will be reposted.

Cysior, since the picture does belong to someone and came from a different forum I feel permission is required and credit needs to be given. However let's see what the general consensus is.
Members please respond. The image can always be replaced.

I agree with Joe.

If permission can not be obtained then maybe post a link to the thread on the other forum instead.

However it is sometimes against a forum rules to link to a rival forum so this should be checked first.

Cheers
Don

I think Joe & Don make a lot of good points. Credit should be given for photos whenever possible, it's only fair to the poster. If obtaining permission to post is not granted, under the circumstances GD should allow a link to another forum's thread since I believe the object of our involvement is purely enjoyment & education.

On that note, I just started using a watermark myself after posting pics for years without any type of identifier. Not that I'm any Cecil B. Demille, but what bugs me is I see questionable guys on Eban using some of GD members' photos on auctions that I can only believe to be scams.

I think that whenever possible the poster should give credit to the owner and forum, as Billy said if the forum will not give permission then a link should be posted to the other site. We all benifit from either position by seeing other examples of others badges whether there members here or elswhere. Cysior, see if you can get permission from the owner or forum admin so we can repost the pic or at least link it to here. Like Joe said we can repost with permission. Thanks

Fritziii

I'm a photo pirate myself. I try and list who the photo belongs to but sometimes it gets lost in time and I'll just post the photo anyway..

Cysior, if you know the site where it came from just credit that site,,,"photo credit ~>0^@#% site". and be done with it...

IF you can't remember,,and there's no watermark,, site logo,, or emblem on it don't mention anything,,just post the photo and your question/opinion. Wink...,G.

End of story.
ps.If scamer need a picture it will take him 3 minutes to remove your watermarks/signatures (unless you know where to put your signature) or he can download pictures from ANY website using "print" button without ANY problem.

The link has been located and inserted in place. Will clean up the posts that do not pertain at a later date. If all are in agreement.
Back to the subject of Fire Service Crosses. Thanks to all. We kept it civil and reached an end result that all should find fair and aggreable.
