Guys, i woud nead some help with this SS dog tag, a felow collector hase offerd me this one in a part trade and to be onest i am not an expert, since i have handeld only two original ground dug SS dog tags. He have told me that this one was issued in 1944 and is considerd late war!

What do you think, is it genuin?

well id question the font, the fact its not eugen ,but WHY IS THERE A PINK CORD, then theres the fact the lower hole has been drilled and made burrs ,, ohh theres so much, this is a NO.

Yes, i made a mistake based only on the two letters PE, but i was comparing other letters with original ground dug exmaples and biside the hole that looks like it was drilled it looks o.k to me but i am not a dog tag expert, so i nead second opinon, thank you phil-brown for yours!

This piece came right out of a US veteran's scrapbook and still has the glue on the back.
I posted it on this forum almost a year ago, when it first came out of the woodwork. There is frequent debate about whether W-SS divisions actually spelled out their names on dogtags. Prinz Eugen was one which did.
This is for a mountain artillery sub-unit within that division.

R.A. , yes, Wiking had a unit or 2 where it was spelled out...
