Houston,
This particular pommel is held by a different method than the usual pommel nut or ball. Do you know by what process they achieved this and what method they used to secure the hilt so as to remain tight.

The tang protrudes through the ball, then is 'peened' over to become one with the ball, locking everything together. Often the hilts will loosen up over time- I guess this one didn't suffer any shrinkage. Maybe hirsch is more stable than other materials? Swords hilts are mostly done this way, and many Fire daggers are as well.

Thanks Lance, I thought that was the term for this type of locking process. The end of the tang was struck with some type of hammer to overlap the little ball collar and tighten the complete hilt. Very Interesting!
