Hello

We have what appears to be a HJ knife & it seemd to fit the bill as being a late period one. The mark on the ricasso reads 'schneidteufel solingen' which I've not been able to find listed or within other posts?? Also the diamond is damaged & looks like someone tried to scratch it off! I will try to get photos as my scans were too big to post. Any comments in the meantime would be greatly appreciated though.

Many thanks

Clamilla

Hello Clamilla,

To be honest with you: 'schneidteufel solingen' is not a good sign. It is not believed to be a WWII period marking.

If you post the pictures of your knife, you will get very usefull information anyway.

Best greetings,

Herman

Thanks Herman

I've spent all morning trying to post some photos but apparently they are too big to post! I was going to try to put them in Photobucket or something similar but that site is down for maintenance - how annoying!!

Any ideas as to how to get my photos on here???

Thanks in advance

Clamilla

You have to resize your pictures to 100kb maximum in a program type "Photoshop".

Best greetings,

Herman

Thanks again Herman - I've tried to resize them but not had any luck. I have managed to get on to Photobucket now though & hopefully you can use this link to see my album??

Any comments would be greatly appreciated about authenticity or origin especially as my husband is meeting a militaria dealer tomorrow with a view to selling it. Is it likely to have any value even if it isn't WWII ???

The diamond is puzzling me & I'm not sure how clear it is on the photos - it has been damaged but from what you can see it looks as if there is a horizontal black line at the top of the diamond - it looks almost as if it's the top of a cross. Where these knives ever used by the Red Cross or produced as souvenirs of Switzerland?????

Any info greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Clamilla

Hi Clamilla, this is not an original HJ knife. The diamond may have originally been just a solid red color, or perhaps it had a fleur-de-lis scout motif on it - a little difficult to tell from the pics, but it is not an HJ diamond. These were made postwar by a few different makers.

Regards
Russell
