Anyone know what the letters 'M S' stand for? I recently acquired a pair of Army Hauptmann boards, with yellow piping, having those two letters (made of aluminum), separately attached.
Will post a photo later.

If it's in gothic it would be for;

Army Motorizing school (Testing Battalion)

Introduced in mid 1940. replaced the "V" previously used. (Pictured on page 263 plate 2.3 "Field Uniforms of German Army Panzer Forces in WW2"

To the best of my knowledge there were no latin "MS" used.

Thanks for the reply and info Mr Strong. With the recon type golden yellow piping, your theory sounds logical. Will still post photos of the boards soon- Regards, MB

As promised-here is a shot of the boards in question, at last. As you can see, they were cutoff, evidently under battlefield conditions-the boards are rather dirty and piping is worn- off, at the rounded ends.

Here's a section of the chest of the same tunic-(note material). This is obviously a noncom quality flatwire eagle, but I've seen them worn by officers, on a number of late war combat tunics.

The best I can see is Machine gun school.The rank pips are in the wrong orientation for normal.They should be 90 degrees rotated. That would, by position, interfere with the strap button. Just somthing to take into account.
