The manufacturer probably thought it would make a change to switch from "Fatman" hewers to these.

I have seen at least two of these previously.



They were called "German Made Texas Bowie Knives" or something like that. There was a thread about them too if I am not mistaken.

Could be some post war parts that were converted, but most likely a modern variation on the old RAD EM dagger. The blades looks new - that is for sure. So is the etching of course, as is the scabbard and frog.

This looks like it's just the ticket for Denny Roach to use for pig stickin!!

This hewer was listed in the Herder catalog of about 15 years ago. I saw one several years ago at a local gunshow. It was pretty well made.

That'd work a darned sight better than the last weapon I used during my last encounter with wild hogs......in Texas.....

I was armed with a 12 ga riot gun loaded with 00 buckshot and the scoundrels were running around so close I could feel the hair on their butts. That "pig sticker" looks like it would work in a tight situation like that.....

I actually got off a shot and fell and nearly broke my ribs as I was scurrying around with my riot gun. Plugged one of the blaggarts. A 60-70 lb boar. Believe I could have dispatched more had I wielded a pig sticker like though.......

Hey Denny, are you talking about razorback or peccary?

Domesticated hogs gone wild. Guess they'd be called a razorback in other locales. Mostly black, but some have whitish spots and bristled up. Range in size from piglets up to 350-400 lb. sows and boars. Many sport tusks that can rip a dog or calf to pieces.

They've been known to attack dogs, cattle, and humans, so they're dangerous. When I was running amongst 'em, I had no idea or I'd a hi-tailed it to the house.....

They "slice" in in groups of about 20 and destroy everything they touch. Big business down here for trappers and hunters.

They root up yards and fields to the point it looks like a turning plow has been at work. I've had 3 visits from the blaggarts so far and NOT looking forward to another visit. Hogs tore my yard up 3 times and got into my sprinkler system the last time.

The Texas Pig Sticker shown above would allow you to take swipes at 'em and even dress 'em out after you dispatched 'em (better done w/00 buck from a distance though). I wouldn't eat 'em, but some people do and claim it's delicious....

350 - 400 pounds, wow. Probably not much fat either, all muscle and bone, that could be pretty formidable. The only animals of that size and potentially dangerous we have up here are blackbears. But all those I ever encountered in the backcountry took off after seing me. They pretty much avoid human contact.

Just wanted to go out to the backyard when I spotted this here really mean critter under one of my fur trees. So I quickly retreated inside before it assumes the attack posture.

Damage to my yard. Furrows are 10" deep in most places. Yard was damaged everywhere like this.

Denny: You are probably not spending $40 to $50 a month on peanuts.

Jim m: You'd be surprised how fast they are. They are agile going up the tree, down the tree, slip through little holes in the fence to get away from Peppy. He finally gave up chasing them. He likes to watch them when they open the lid to the peanut hopper getting to the grubs.

Adam: There is a small farm about a mile from my house with a huge Palouse sow rooting around. Peppy ran up to the fence with amazement. The old sow just stood there and grunted at him. He looked pretty puzzled - never saw a dog like that before.

Adam, that is an amazing pic!! I had no idea these things grew so big.
