I found the liner pic to share.
Horrible flimsy cotton fabric and dye methods, far from pretty.

Don't foreget the US purchased many of these tanks and they formed the backbone of Patton's new corps during the lean years prior to WW11

If I rememnber they were all fiber. I saw piles of them there. Most were in the $65-$100 range.

INTERESTING TO NOTE since this thread started the availability of M16s in the bazaars has dropped to nil nada you can't find them anymore. Also the old muskets have been bought up and shipped out to the states by members of the embassy guards who are civilians. Oh well I have a nice pile stacked up in my living room Big Grin

A friend of mine was in Afghanistan and located a bunker full of German WWI era helmets covered in dirt, dust and debris. He couldn't go through them at the time, but returned there on a "special mission" and did just that. He brought back 3 or 4 M18's (yep, the "talker" type). Sold one or two and still has a couple. They have small holes on either side for the attachment of metal insignia.

The helmets are all over the place in Kabul still, with all sorts of odd badges on them. I suspect the sellers are putting some of them together now themselves because they've noticed they sell better. I found this picture of the Afghan Army Band in my files from pre-Taliban days.
