Mike,

Thanks for getting the better pics from your buddy. The Himmler signature still us unusual looking. The thing that concerns me is the two different number "2"s in the date seem to be different size and shape. That said, I kind of like how the recipient's name looks. Believe me I'm no expert by a long shot and I'd love to hear what some of the others have to say. My fingers are crossed it turns out to be the real deal for you.

Jim ,the crooks already have an excellent original example for the BLOSSFELD name in the previous posts. There is no BLOSSFED name in the PATZWALL TOTENKOPF book.Yet he received one. I would compare your ring to this one no matter what the "EXPERTS" have told you. There may very well have been two rings issued to different BLOSSFELD SS men.

That's the trouble with blurry photos, weird angles etc..On a decent copy once knocked around and natural wear on it makes finding the mistakes tougher..Early style rings it can be sometimes difficult to see a seam, but on the later style you should see something,,only if its even a slight discoloration..

Zorro, remember Patzwalls book is only a partial list of just the early rings! Many names that do not appear in the book are good and have excellent documentation for them.

*Jim A., same date on your ring?

Obviously, I can't speak for Don Boyle, but I have a hard time believing that he would be happy with the engraving in this ring. The "e" in Himmler's name was never made that way. As for the recipient's name, the "f" is questionable, the "d" would have gotten the engraver fired, and the engraving isn't at all crisp as it should be. Even on a heavily worn ring, the engraving should look better. The numbers are very poorly executed as well. Go to the posting on July 1, 2006 ""TK Ring-Good or Bad?". Compare the engraving. That ring came from Don Boyle around 20 years ago. I posted it WITHOUT mentioning that it came from him cause I was curious what reaction it would get. (Sorry guys!!) Unfortunately, the ring in question does not have engraving that is consistent with the rings from Gahr. Certain parts of the engraving ARE well done, however, as is the skull. One more thing: GET AN EXACT MEASUREMENT OF THE WIDTH OF THE BAND. That could rule out a second generation casting. But the engraving still looks wrong.

Gaspare,There is a slight patination dot where the seam probably is.Don Boyle is no doubt the man when it comes to TOTENKOPF RINGS.I say there can be two original rings with the same name.If somebody wants a name to fake on a ring the web is full of them. The first ring has more going for it then a frontal shot with a blurry confirmation letter on the second ring and if I had to pick one with the information at hand I would go with the first one.To confirm any item originality on the web is impossible but I like what I see.Send it to Don if he still does that kind of thing .Let me know if it turns out bad because if it does I will not spend another cent on this c**p.P.S Josiah,I went and looked at the ring you mentioned is that supposed to be a good fake or is it original? If Don said its original I guess it is It does not compare to the ring in question you are right about that. The Himmler signature on your ring does not look like the ones in Dons TOTENKOPF book.

Mike it will take more than that. How do the fakers pick a name like BLOSSFELD when it is not listed in the Patzwall book and if you look at the name in the 1937 SS Dienstalterslifte List the two ss in the name BLOSSFELD don't look like anything I have seen . Why not use Schmitz or Schneider so when the sucker(Like Me) buys it at least it would have some credence to start with. This is wearing me out I'm taking a break.

I purchased it from Don Boyle a long time ago and it came with his COA. The lettering in the Himmler signature does go up and down a bit, but the fineness of the engraving, and style is consistent. Notice the "e", then compare it to the ring in question. Also notice the evenness of the height of the numbers and name. They're also all at the same angle, unlike the other ring. It has a more uniform appearance. E-mail me the pics, especially the last ones, and I'll e-mail them to Don Boyle and see if he can make a determination with the pics alone.

Hi guys ...this is really getting weird ..2 rings ? And now more Blossfeld's out of Poland ?
If this was a common name used by the repro's why hasn't it shown up long before now ?
I Emailed Don Boyle to ask his help and opinion on this ....you know the one great thing about this thread ? It's a learning experience for all of us...if it turns out they are using the Blossfeld name for repro's ..we're all ahead of the game.
I still have an open mind but ,my fingers crossed too

Another thing I don't like is the use of the "script" style "ss" in the name. Notice also how the "e" continues into the "l" as though it's also written in handwriting script. The letters in the name were small case, but I've never seen them connected together like that. The recipient's name was never done in script, but small case block letters. (Hopefully, that's the proper term). Also, it's hard to see, but the "e" in Himmler's name does not normally look like an "e" at all, but in this case, it appears like they were trying to make it look like a normal "e".

P.S. Both "l"'s are also done in a script style, with one letter leading into another. And not very smoothly.

It makes sense since the name is hand done ...but they must of had a stamp or die of some sort to put the Himmler name in , so "Himmler" looked the same on each Ring.
Look at the bottom of Jim's " L " ..see how his also has a slight "lip" or tail coming up to the next letter "d " (of Blossfeld) ..my "d" has 2 sep parts though

The letter "l" normally does have a lip, but it's very small. In the case of your prospective ring, it's not a small lip, but an actual effort to connect the letters, just like the Himmler name. The "e" is the same way. And then, of course, the issue of the handwriting script "s"'s.

Fellow Collectors ...the "decision" is in ....the Ring that I was looking at is a copy of Jim's Ring.
Jim owns the Original " Blossfeld" Ring .
Apparently Jim's Ring was bought from a Vet sometime in the 1990's and whoever bought it ...had it "cloned" ..unfortunately ,this is a fact.

Then the Original ended up sold to Whittmann and Jim bought it from him.

I Emailed and discussed the Ring with Andy (Militarynut) many times ..and I have to tell you , he was a great help . I also Emailed Mr. Don Boyle and asked his help and , he called and Emailed me with the information confirming that ...this was a reproduction.

This was a special case since ..the "Blossfeld" name and Ring had already been examined and confirmed by Don BUT , the cast clone (or clones?) was known to exist.

Don also said --
"THE OTHER PERSON IS ALSO RIGHT IN SAYING THERE CAN BE MORE
THEN ONE HONOR RING THAT IS ORIGINAL TO THE SAME MAN WITH THE SAME DATE
AS, ..IF IT WAS WORN OR LOST IT COULD BE REPLACED FOR ANOTHER. " BEST WISHES
DON BOYLE

I would really like to thank everyone ..Billy G,Gaspare,Josias,Eric,Zorro ..But most of all Andy and Don for all their help and sharing their knowledge ..they had nothing to gain by helping me out here ..they were helping all of us and did it for the Collecting Community.
Real Gentleman and it was a pleasure "meeting" them
I never knew there were actual "clones" of orig rings out there ..It seems that we've all learned something from this thread. I wish all the Forum's always worked this way , no problems, no sarcasm ..just a sharing of opinions & information by a lot of collectors.
Thanks guys
Smile--Mike
