Greetings All,
I would like your opinion on this First Pattern Luf. I purchased this as part of a collection. I have not seen much written about first pattern presentation daggers. It was made by P.D LUNESCHLOSS. The blade is Damascus etched. It has the awardees name on one side with the eagle holding a swastika on each end. There is a hint of a gold finish on the etching but as with all things 60 plus years old there is wear. On the reverse there is the tribute and the signature of Herman Goering. How do I add Pics

Pictures are a must, to add make sure your pictures are under 100kb in size and click on "add attachment" in the message posting window. Just browse to the location of the file on your PC.

Luneshloss and Clemen & Jung frequently apprears on fake presented blades. When you see these makers on presented blades flags should go up. In my opinion I am 99.9% sure this is a fake blade. This would be enough to make me pass! BTW, chances are good trhat the rest of the dagger is fine. Someone just replaced the blade.

I have to completely agree with Paul.
1st model lufts had few presentation pieces and this one is saldy one of the bad ones.
The "pea****" pattern demast shows up quite frequently on repro demast and I have always wondered why that is...
Also that "gonzo" eagle is a very bad sign.
Sorry but there were a lot of these fakes made.

Thank for the input. I am hoping to recoupe my money. Question. If I were to get a blade for it how would it be clasified. And is it ethical to do this as it would not be an original?

If you replaced the blade you would be restoring the piece. IMO a good thing in this case, although it would be considered a "parts dagger".

It would only be unethical if you then tried to pass it on as an all original piece. If I were in your place I would forget about this one.

When i was in Michigian this summer a guy was trying to sell me an artifical damascus blade with the same etch as yours. It had Herman Goering signature on the back of the blade and was made by. P.D LUNESCHLOSS. Stay away. The rest of it looks real nice though.
