This 1940 dated and maker marked sword hanger was attached to a Heer dagger I picked up long ago privately. Is it possible that it was used for a dagger? I am not aware of a hanger like this being used for over the tunic wear for a Heer dagger.
The small amount of wear on the obverse indicates that ring was rubbing on it.
Is it possible, or were they mated up?

Anything is possible but, I don't think this was the case. How about hanging a dagger on it so we can see what it looked like.

This was probably used on an "under the tunic" dagger/sword belt with the hangers through the pocket as usual. Only some tunics have the sewn in dagger snap-and some Officers did not like the pull on the tunic and used the belt instead-especially with the sword.

Thanks Gentlemen. Makes sense what you say Houston, especially if one does not like having a dagger hanging straight from the tunic.
