This is a rifle I bought during my service time in Afghanistan.I know many people bring such items back from there, and many of them have been repro victims.Anyone knows wich units had this carbine?Artillery or cavalry maybe?Few days ago I gave it for maintenance, posting the old pics now, will repost with the new.Enjoy!

Looks to be the Snider-Enfield variant in .577 Snider caliber - issued to both Cavslry and Artillery units. British upgraded their 1853 Enfields to breech-loading by using the Snider mechanism. In British use up to 1901.

Exactly, this is the snider patent one.The specific is a leftover from the English colonial wars in Afghanistan. It also has a mark number, these rifles where MK1 to MK3.I think mine is MK2 will post more.

I'm on the opposite side on the restoration. Most firearm collectors would prefer it in the unaltered state.

I should say that I obviously don't agree with you, but I sure can understand your point of view.

The Lockplate has a new look to it ,I think it might be a reproduction or a bitsa ( look on youtube the Pakistanis can make and mark any firearm you want ) there doesnt seem to be any wear age or patina .Rob
