Hello all.
I was wanting to post a few pictures of a rare item which I was fortunate enough to aquire through (fellow GDC member) Wagner (aka Serge).
This is a fine early SA by EP&S. The extremely rare aspect is the completely original period leather "upgraded" scabbard. These are found, but only occasionally.
Hope you enjoy the pics.
Johnny

Johnny, This is a cool piece that has a certain charm to it. The stitching reminds me of the ones on Frankensteins head! I enjoyed viewing this in person last year. Thanks for sharing my freind!

Thanks guys.
As I understand it these are quite rare. Whittmann saw this piece in person and liked it very much. The leather is unquestionably original in the way that it has slightly shrunk away from the fittings and "melted" together where stitched.
Whittmann said that this type of "enhancement" is almost always seen on very early Eich. or EP&S pieces. He thinks they were either done professionally as an "add on" or by the owners themselves. This was not done later (it is belived) because it would be in direct violation of regulations as leather scabbards were later reserved for honor pieces.
There are very rare. Hopefully I will get some better pics. to share.
Thanks for the input.
Johnny

Neat piece. The leather reminds me of the leather combat covers sometimes seen on Japanese sword scabbards.
