Picked up this complete rig not long ago from Craig. I hadn't seen this Assman hanger construction utilizing the rivet before except on the metal tabs. I thought it was very unusual.

I don't believe there were any regulations regarding the shortening of hangers and the refastening to the clip. The clip end of the hangers was usually hidden under the coat flap anyway so it didn't really matter. Many of these modifications were done by local cobblers who used whatever method they found convenient and did the job.

The manner in which the ends were finished with the stitching being consistent throughout all the fabric leaves me to believe that these might possibly have been sewn this way and riveted originally rather than being a period repair.
