Aside from the fact that the knot is tied incorrectly there is nothing wrong with the dagger . And in most cases the common army knot was used on these daggers. The handle is supposed to be plastic (trolon).
To my knowledge there haven't been any good replicas made of the DRK leader. There are some who claim there are replicas galore but have not been able to show one.

Hello, zet and Manfred! To me, the dagger looks fine. However, the scabbard appears to be one piece, i.e. no separate throat held in by two screws on each side. zet, can you tell if the throat is a separate piece? Regards, teufel

In this item there is no screws , can make pics and post, also in my replica the handle had the same color . I have so many red flags to this dagger compare to the original photos. But I can make mistakes Im not an expert. zet

Yes, I have wondered aboudt that, too. In an earlier thread posted by 3-finger Louis called 'New Red Cross' the scabbard has no screws either. I don't know if this is a legitimate variation or a new wave of repros. I guess, the scabbard needs to be checked with a magnet. As a rule, repros don't have scabbards of ferrous metals.

I had a man from Canada sell me a screwless DRK dagger. It was a SUPER fake! One piece construction scabbard, made from a casting, had rough finish inside. They used wood for the runners. The top screw was machined, and did not have the normal set screw under the screw cap. Total fake. I sent it back so buyers BEWARE! His name was Helmut.

I dont like the scabbard.

Do you have any better photos of the crossguard, cover screw, etc?

I'm not saying for sure this is a reproduction, but I'm not convinced it's real either.

I have seen a teno leader with a scabbard that was constructed this way. It was a one piece casting and super heavy. The blade was diecast as well. It looked great in a photo but in person it could easily be id'd as a fake. I have not yet seen any DRKs like that.

I also want to say that there are a few original DRKs where the pommel nut actually screws onto the tang. I have seen two this way and both were originals. One is the SW in my own collection. This might have been an early or late variation. But from a practical standpoint it is a more efficient way to assemble the hilt than this mickey mouse arrangement with the two tang nuts and the plug to cover the hole. That was the 'system' copied from the early SS sword, probably by someone with no imagination of his own.

Manfred, on mine that you called my attention to the missing screws the seperate throat was there and the screw HOLES were there somebody had just swiped the screws! The one here is a Repro. It is one of the ones I carry occasionally. They are made in Germany and are very high quality. the scabbards are one piece and have no screws and no seperate throat. The blades are made of some kind of Pewter or other non mag metal. but visually they are great!
