I picked this beautiful WW1 US m 1917 helmet up this weekend from the ww1 vets daughter. The helmet looks practically unused. Her family was from the Boston area, he went to Fort Devens and then overseas, but he wasn't in combat. His name was R. Anderson. Just wondering if anyone can ID the unit insignia that is painted on the front of the helmet. Thanks guys.

I always thought the 12th (plymouth) Division was never deployed? Maybe he transfered out of the 12th? Eitherway the liner looks good not sure about the paint but im sure MR. Jerry will know.

I must have misunderstood her, I guess you can't go into combat if you never went overseas. She told me on a couple of occasions that her father never was in combat so I assumed he was "over there". Thanks for your help guys. MAZZ

I can't speak much about the unit history, but I like the helmet too. Great shape, and very cool find! You should ask her of she had any photos of him. Also a good idea to keep a 3x5 card with the info you know inside the helmet.
This insignia is one of the patches that turns up a lot as "Patch King" repro.
