Up for auction is a pair of old German Daggers from WWII. These were part of a box lot I purchased at a local estate sale . The brown one is missing the eagle on the handle. The brown scabbard is missing two of its screws....otherwise it seems to be in nice condition. The black scabbard is in great shape....complete. Both scabbards show age on the nickel plating. Both blades are in great shape and have never been sharpened. Both blades are marked ALCOSO - SOLINGEN. Please email questions because other than what I mentioned, I have no knowledge of these at all. As always, sold as is.

Daggers are on E-bay, and I believe them to be fake. Alcoso didn't make SA or SS daggers.

Wasn't this because they were a Jewish company and the SS and SA would not allow it?

Hello Borse. From my understanding I believe you are correct on both points. -wagner-

The seller has posted additional photographs. Also, the link above is not working. Here is one that does.

I have a SS (Alcoso) repro with the same "golden hue" to the crossguards that's currently in Craig Gottliebs possession. I can't tell much else due to the picture quality here.

Just noted a few more things after a second cup of coffee:
*The grips appear to be of the plastic variety.
* Both blades appear to be too narrow with the distinctive high ridge.
*The lower scabbard fitting isn't even close to a period one.
* I can't tell for sure; but what's going on where the upper edge of the lower scabbard fitting meets the scabbard?

Wasn't there a Jewish maker of daggers, which had a Star of David for the mark?
I cant recall who it was, but didn't they make SAs?

Fascinating Lewis. Is there one? I can consult Fisher's Reference when I get back home.

Somewhere in the Fisher reference there is a manufacturer with a Star of David logo. I'm almost positive that they didn't make political daggers. Seems to me they wouldn't have gotten many contracts from the Nazis. Roll Eyes

I asked for pictures from the seller. He responded that he had already posted better photos on the auction, and he also asked for any help in identifying the daggers. Since he asked, I informed him that they were bogus. Here is his reply:

"Thank you very much for the info. I did not take this as an insult. My area of knowledge is in the radio/telegraph area. Like yourself, I can spot a reproduction radio of morse code key a mile away. It is very hard though when you know absolutely nothing about what you are trying to sell. Again I appreciate the information.....The last thing I want to do is sell something for a lot of money and have it be a repro.

Have a good holiday....."

He's just an honest guy trying to make an extra buck or two. He has since pulled the auction. See, there are honest people on Eban. Smile
