Wonderful, Eric... Bgle belonged to Trupp 5, whose task was the MICA antiaircraft position on the plateau of the fort Eben Emael. He was killed while attacking the "Baraquement Graindorge" (barrack). This building housed the personnel that maintained the weapons of the Fort. Trupp 5 together with the men of Trupp 8 attacked the position, throwing 3 hollow charges inside. Otto Unger (Trupp 8), Helmut Bgle died during the attack.

Giday Eric,

Simply outstanding! Thank you for sharing with us a photo showing Bgle's Sterbebild.

I have a photograph that shows a grave located quite near the barracks building. Could this be a temporary grave in which Bgle was buried? What do others think?

Best wishes,

Ian

Ian, as far as I know the Fallschirmjger KIA were buried on the fort, in the northern point, close to Mi Nord, on May 11, before the men of Witzig left the position. The wounded were carried to Canne and the rest of the group went to Maastricht on foot.
The killed on the fort and the bridges were buried from June 1940 until 1946 in Maastricht.
Best regards. scar

Thank you gentlemen for all the great information. Much appreciated. I wasn't sure if you had seen this photo from Helmut Wenzel or not. Pi.Zug II./FJR1 on May 14, 1939 at the Flugtag held at Lippstaat. A.Passmann is of course in front at far left. A little different view than the one in von Roon's book.

I put that photo in Photoshop and tried to see if I could get decals to burn in, but it looks like there aren't any. So, May, 1939, and no decals on the helmets. Oversprayed, scraped off, or trick of the light?

And lastly we could know the identity of the Granit members in this photo... From left to right: Fritz Heinemann, Alois Passmann, Wilhelm Alefs and Wolfgang Schulz. Harm Mlder doesnt appear.
Thanks for the other pics, Eric. Regards. scar

Thanks again for diging deeper and coming up with the correct ID for this photo. From looking at these 2 views of Passmann, there is little doubt that he is the second man from the left. Very interesting that Mlder doesn't appear in the photograph at all, despite the fact that he was not wounded. Again, very happy and gratefull that this photograph has now been identified correctly.
