Actually no "Jolly Roger " here. this piece just turned up in Germany appears to have been untouched for along time. What do you guys think about the skull and bones--Freikorps, maybe. I have seen closeups and the death's head has been there a long, long time.

I would say it's linked to some sort of fraternal order.

I agree. Crossguard is on backwards-possible Masonic.

Now this may be a reach... but sort of coincidental I think... John Walter's book " Sword & Bayonet Makers of Imperial Germany 1871-1918" list a Friedrich NeeSS & Shne, Solingen,(1860-1870). w/ a SKULL & CROSSBONES trademark.

IF Walter's book contains a typo and should have read Friedrich NeeFF & Shne, this could then be the F.R. Neeff on this blade and the skull may just be a variation of their trademark.

Just a thought.

First time I have seen this mark on a hirschfnger, seems Roger has nailed this one, good to see the original skinner still with the dagger.
