Currently on Eban, a very unusual stamped maker mark on the blade, "Eickhorn Hannover". Anyone ever see something like this?

Certainly doesn't look like the quality of etching one would expect from Eickhorn.

I believe there is not much wrong with the hirschfnger myself, I think the blade has been polished and possibly part of the makers mark or distributor mark may be missing. He does mention that the blade may have been re-plated so perhaps the plating is covering the remainder of the marks on the blade. It certainly does not look to have been made post war in my opinion. If anything with those fittings and especially the way the upper scabbard mount fits up into the hilt of the dagger it is probably an Imperial piece and possibly pre 1900.

hi Gary ,
thats my point , i cant see anything wrong with this item except for the eickhorn hannover . cant see why anyone would add this either, eickhorn solingen maybe but to add hannover would be a bit daft . if eickhorn solingen used to have a retailer in hannover (never heard of this ) i think it would still say solingen on blade next to eickhorn and some form of logo squirrely.
maybe there was another small firm called eickhorn in hannover in the pre 1900`s in hannover that had nothing to do with the eickhorn in solingen we all know so well . just im curious on this . wonder what the company name registration was like back then in germany .

Gary,
I agree, more of the inscription could have been wiped clean and or replated, could very well have been a presentation piece/gift from Eickhorn or a memento perhaps. Not as elaborate like we're used to seeing them but it's possible I guess. It looks like it was made late 19th century as Gary stated,so if you believe it was made around 1872? There was a large meet in Hannover in 1872,this could explain the why.
