Did any one happen to see the below strap on eBay described as "This is for police grenadiers"? Any ideas of what it is actually for?

The "G" looks like it was constructed with bullion?

OK, thats one I have never seen before. My 1st thought was early post war DDR. But it doesn't fit the color schemes of what I know. I might go out on a limb and say military. What throws me is the blue center, which was used early on by the DDR police, but the pink (possibly faded) under layment. Then the dual color chevrons..... I'm puzzled.

The cypher may in fact be metal. I've seem some very nice rounded over pieces that give the impression of bullion but are actually stamped.

Andrew,

Confusing colors! After looking through the Assmann catalog reprint, I agree that the cypher is likely metal.

I agree. I have never seen the "G" cypher used in police circles. But the dual color chevrons really has my curiosity going. I'll keep looking on this end.

Guys,

An interesting shoulder board. It looks like a Weimar Republic period police board of some sort to me. Here is a similar one but with a different underlayment color.

I believe this one may be Hannover but the uniform piping is also blue and not red like the shoulder board in question.

Andrew,

Not early DDR shoulder boards. Here is the 1948 style Volkspolizei shoulder board you are thinking of. These had a very distinctive green backing of loosely woven badge cloth. Similar but not a match.

No, I knew it wasn't DDR Police. I have the early issue DDR Police ranks in my collection. But my first thoughts went along the post war DDR route because of the general design and use of the chevrons. Most post war W.G. police didn't use the chevrons.

Although now that you mention it, I think you might be right in the Weimer Period.
