Both the dagger and the vertical hanger appear to be authentic. The dagger maker is a code that does not appear in Wittmann's book. It is interesting to see that the dagger has solid nickel crossguards and eagle. That is very unusual for 1938, but I don't see anything to suggest that this is a parts dagger. I can't tell from the photos if the scabbard fittings are solid nickel or plated.

The code, along with at least 5 others was missed in Tom's book. It is a legit maker.

Fascinating 'New' Maker RZM Find! CONGRATULATIONS.....
I belive TW lists 44 Individual RZM 'Makers' on p 162 of his Book.. (TW did state, I believe, that he went through the records of the prior 10 years of Sales of RZM's - in compiling his list. He also stated elsewhere in the book, that essentially..."...No List is Complete..."
Now we have additionally, TMK, these RZM's:
1. SS 285/38 ........Just Posted (? Maker) 2. RZM M7/67 SS .....Gott. Hamm. 3. RZM M7/56 ....... Carl D. Scharff
WHAT ARE THE MARKINGS OF THE OTHER 'NON WITTMANN' FOUND RZM'S? 4. 5. 6.
Txs, Dave/dblmed

Rieny, I have had a theory for a while on these RZM 285/38's. Look at the below dagger and in particular the fittings and scabbard. I believe that these were all made by Pack.

Now that would be a find! I believe that if we conceed that 285/38 is indeed Pack and agree that 1211/39 is as well, this further strengthens the argument that these type numbers, (3 or 4 digit codes followed by a year) represent the contract numbers that were let to individual makers.

@ AJ,you got a 7/72 by 1942?
I'd never seen an SS- Dagger after 1940.

I have always thought that the RZM numbers higher than 118 were contract numbers or something similar. The major reason is that are quite a few blades with both the higher numbers as well as the RZM codes we know. Such as M7/80 with RZM1197/38 SS underneath.
As to whether the currently unknown codes such as 120, 121, 285, etc, or the unmarked blades in the M1936 daggers, can be attributed to any manufacturer based on components or blade etches, I am open-minded but unconvinced.
From what I see on the high volume dagger types like SA/SS/Luft/Army, there was quite a bit of sharing of suppliers and even some cross-selling of components. Add to this the fact that subcontractors did specilalized work for several makers.

Hello Skyline dive,
i know that the 941/38 ss has also nickelsilver eagle and crossguards and otherwise nickelplated scabbard-fittings and the screw on top also.
