I just got this photo showing 2 Kraftfahrer standing next to a gravestone that says :"ICI SONT TOMBES -3 Soldat Francais - Vietimes de la Retraite de 1814 ". The postcard is dated : 11-6-17.

...and the guy on the right . Since there is an "o" over his head , I assume it is "Jul.=Julian " who signed the card on the other side . As you might have noticed , he has removed his collar tabs and there seems to be a slip-over cover over his shoulder board .

Here is the written side of the Card . "Julian " is asking a friend "Karl" to send him some Ration Booklet for bread , since he is in bad shape . So , the conditions at the front at the date written , 11-6-1917, must have been bad , if Julian had to write home for these extra ration booklets to get bread !

Very nice photo Bernd. I have not seen the slipcovered shoulderboards before. It makes since since he has removed his collar tabs.
