Rob,
Nice looking dagger, but I think there is more to it than you have shown us,if so stop teasing and let us see the obverse of the blade please. You are amassing some spectacular items,I know you can handle yourself but I hope your house is well alarmed and you have extensive insurance!!!
Congadulations on another good one.
Regards,Ivan.

I will not post the dedication guys , I have had 2 pieces of me allready beaten to death here ( both of them I didnt post myself )
and there are to many haters here on this forum.
The only thing that people do here is break each other down , and each others pieces.
Grip , maybe it is jealousy , but I wont let them break another piece of me .
Sorry for the guys that do like when I post my pieces here!
People around me always warned me for the forum , but I was not listening.
So , the "regular textbook things" I will post , not the rare pieces , if some people here see some things that they didnt see before , they become real whiners. If I ever want to sell those pieces , then these whiners will allways go like " Well , that piece was the forum , and the "experts" said it was fake.
Wotan , General Wolf still working on the blade engraving of the Diplomat . ( together with Schnaufer ) Wink Big Grin ...

Too bad you feel that way Rob.
However I do understand you after all the controversy around the Wolf and the Schnaufer items.

Cheers,

Rob:
For what ever it's worth you're way off base here. When an item is presented on this forum that's not been seen before people become suspious. We know all too well how much fakery has occurred over the years. Then when additional information is requested and it's not forthcoming they become downright leery. At that point the owners motivation for posting the item usually comes into question.
Many of the members here that have either questioned your items of frankly have tried to provide you with candid opinions are well known in the collecting community. We have spent a lot of time together both on and off the forums and particularly at the shows. None of them IMO fit you perception of a "whiner".
However; There are real limitations to what can be derived from pictures. If you really want to find out about these items you're best bet would be to either bring them to the MAX or have someone else do that if you can't. I expect the either Tom Johnson or Tom Wittmann would provide apropriate people to review them. In Tom Johnsons case he could confirm that the sword was in the same configuration as when he first saw it in the 70s.

Jim m , you know that Thomas Wittmann priced the Schnaufer dagger. do you think that he would price a dagger that he cosidered a fake ?
he knew that somebody would see his handwriting on the price-tag. He handled this piece , as well as some other dealers. The same with the Wolf sword. About the pics your right , they do give a wrong image , at least on he dagger , not the sword.
For me , I lost my feeling that I allways had whenever I found a new piece , dagger or helmet , wanting to post them directly on this forum.
I just wanted to share with other militaria junkies like me.
That is gone.

Rob, It's too bad you feel that way, but I understand. However we are not jealous of you or your collection. If you hang around you might find out that some of us have some neat stuff too.
Sure there have been opinions rendered here that have been in error. I don't think there has been one collector that hasn't was wrong about something he thought was right. But to knock your item just to "knock" it...No, I have to disagree with you on that point. But I do agree with you that some persons have made comments abount not posting your daggers here. That I could see. Particularly if that came from the the guy that sold you that HJ Leader dagger. Now you know that was a repro, and by our help you said it was "going back". Razz Should we not have said anything??? Would that have been better?
All of us who have been in this hobby for awhile have on occassion been invited to see a "newbie's" collection. Only to be horrified at what we saw. And it's all about reproductions, parts daggers, fantasy pieces etc. This has has been true 30 years ago and it's more true today. There was a case of a well known dealer who ventured out of his area and into "cloth", was rapidly defrauded for all he had. Sadly committed suicide by cop. This story is somewhere here.
So please, we're not here to "kill" your enthusiasm for the hobby. However there are some unscrupulous dealers in this unregulated "Buyer Beware" business who will keep giving you junk while your making them richer. Most of us veterans know who and what. But a new guy like yourself....with little knowledge and a whole lot of trust....they will make "Beef Jerky"..out of you. And we just don't want that to happen to you, or to anyone.
So if you don't want the honest help then OK.
I saw something on another one of your SS daggers that didn't look right to me. But I felt you were going through enough at the time, so I didn't mention it. We're just the messengers who call it the way we see it. Maybe sometimes it's wrong..but most times it's right.
Take Care.
