A report by the Italian Carabinieri, published in early 1939 and seemingly based on German data from 1938, states that all officers for the Gempo came from the Schupo des Reichs, and (here I translate literally from Italian) "constituted a category of their own with only three ranks: Director (Major), Inspector (Captain) and Commissioner (Lieutenant)".
Can this be correct? Can anyone quote the original German source and give the German titles for these ranks?
Thanks!
