IT looks like a late war injection molded one with a replaced pin from what I can see.

why replacement pin? I dont know to tell? What type of pin should be there? I have owned this since the late 70's? Thanks

That black item it a piece of thread. was on the badge when purchased. Man at the gun shop told me it was part of the uniform where it was attached.So I left it. How were these attached to the uniform? were there little loops of thread sewn to the uniform for attachments. The hinge pin looks fine and unmessed with as the finish is the same as the rest of the award. The pin has the little leg protruding down and is slightly flattened on the sides where attached

Nice looking IAB. The badges were held onto the uniform with a loop made from thread. So it is possible. If you compare it to a loop that's still on a tunic you'll be able to tell. Or it could be a string from a price tag. It's hard to tell from this photo.

was no price tag on it when I bought it. Looks like larger ring made of thread with two little strings coming off, I'll see if I can get a better close up of it without removing it.

As stated above this is an original mm "1" IAB made by the Assmann firm. There are four examples marked with numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4.
