Need help with these badges. Can anyone help with the year of issue. The large one is of course Marine Seeflieger. Is the small one the commerative SeeFlieger ? Both have Helgoland island. Anything you can tell me about either badge will be appreciated. Both are hard to find.

Hi Vic,
Here's a little that I can add for you:
Your first, Abzeichen für Marinefleugzeugführer von Seefleugzeuge - 1913.
Second is the Erinnerungsabzeichen für Marinefleugzeug-Führer und Beobachter - 1916
These are some beautiful aviation badges and I've always wanted to own one or two but I'm just as afraid of purchasing any of these imperial examples as those of the TR Luft badges.
Could someone tell us a bit about identifying fakes or how to spot an original?
Best regards!
Bill

Bill, thanks. These are out of a really old collection. The pictures were taken under a lamp so you cannot see the wear on the high points or the frosted gold on the low points. I know there is a continuing controversy about half moons and crowns. The early regulations are very specific. Of course there is also the long production period into the 30's. You know me what little I do know is navy/auto/aero stuff, but I have always admired the navy badges.

Hi Vic, Not an easy subject. I can't point you to this article on the Imperial Pilot Badge from the medalnet website. Imperial Flight Badges I think it can help you with the Juncker Naval Sea Plane Pilot. Sorry I don't know anything about the Commemorative Naval Pilot. Have you tried posting your pics on the Gentlemen Military Interest Club forum? A lot of the old WAF experts, like Rick Research and Stogieman, are active there. You could also send some pics to Deltev Niemann, I am sure he will reply to you. Hope it helps!

Stephane--Thanks for the input. I am glad I am not a badge collector. Already a number of opinions on the Sea Pilot badge.
Hermann has posted them all over Europe.
Hope you are doing well.
Vic
