Moderators, I think this is the right place for this. if not let me know and i will move it.
There has got to be a story here. A beautiful Blue panel etched sword with a unit designation, and someone cut off about 4 inches of both the sword and the scabbard.
I will be putting this on ebay but would like to get info such as what unit this is, and what kind of price on a piece like this. I considered adding it ot my collection but I am unsure on the chopped off scabbard.

Unit etch.
These two etches (other than the unit name) are identical to the etches in the Carl Eichorn Imperial catalogue, as is this sword. Although there is no Eichkorn TM.

I have no idea why this was done. Perhaps the end was crushed in some way. But--IMO it could easily be restored--professional repoint and a replacement correct period scabbard. Biggest cost would be the scabbard--depends on the cost of the sword--and it depends on whether you would be satisfied with a restored piece.

Thanks Houston. I had that thought. Unfortunately this scabbard has more of a curve than most.
This belongs to my friend so in all fairness I think I will put it on EBay and then if I want to buy it I can. I think it depends on the price. I am not inclined myself to go to steep on these types of pieces.
Anyone else as to probably value. Jim

Jim, An otherwise fairly decent Imperial era dress sword for a field artillery enlisted man in the 2nd Nassau Field Artillery Nr. 64 which was a part of the XVIII Armee Korps based out of Frankfurt a/M. My best guess is that someone might have cut off the tip for theatrical use?? As such, it is probably going to go for a lot less than a fully intact specimen. FP
