These are all the same size and weight as the originals and the only obvious detraction is the lack of pebbling on the obverse langet on the DRK hewer.
If you want to criticise someone first walk a mile in their shoes. Then, when they come after you, you'll be a mile ahead and they'll be barefoot.

Hello Terry, From these pictures, I can only say..Wow! Can you tell the origin of these, and can you show closer shots of the Hewer and SA?

Jeez. This will keep me away from the perfect looking examples. I like the beat up stuff anyway.

There is no pebbling on the reverse of the grip of a Red Cross hewer. That Red Cross looks pretty good from those pictures. What else causes you to question it?

I don't know about the other daggers but I can spot that SA dagger being a fake from a mile away... The eagle is set in the grip in the wrong position to start with. I reckon I could point out more with a closer photo.

These pieces have been listed on speedbid for a week or two. Terry you say you have bought these daggers. Are you now selling them on speedbid or using the sellers pictures for this post. Either way it would be very helpful if you could take some more detailed images for reference. The fake stuff coming from the east is getting much harder to discern from average pictures. I am glad to see that they are being advertised for what they are but surely they will resurface from the abounding unscrupulous sellers sold as genuine. repo1repo2repo3repo4The grip of the RAD is a give-away & the hanger bracket is not quite right but for the uninitiated difficult to discern. The SA as stated obvious from a mile away but the Teno & DRK are darn good at this distance without a reference book to hand.

Yeah the SA eagle is too high I agree. The Red Cross looks good to me from that pic and I did overlook the others. Vaughn...the pictures sure shocked me! The larger hewers, especially that Red Cross are surely going to cause some real problems in the collecting community. They appear from the pictures alone to be very well done. Mark

The hobby is leaning and quickly growing into a science.
Obtain the tools and study the books and educate yourself. And most of all, contribute and participate on our GDC Forum and net work with known educated and informed collectors.
* Micrometer.
* Digital Scales.
* Microscope.
* Black Light.
And when need be and if warrented, consult with a metalurgist or a labratory specializing in materials and fabrics.
Oh yea, and for some, a clear nose and a clean palate if one is of that vintage and belief.
But most of all, enjoy and have fun with your hobby.
Of course, if one's not content with the hobby, there is always an alternative.
John

The introduction of finer reproductions is an obvious result of escalating prices. If there is money to be made, there will be someone out there willing to put forth the effort. A good example of this is the Knight's Cross. I am told that there are jewelers in Europe making copies that are impossible to distinguish from the originals.
Unfortunately for the hobby, these types will only get better, and much more attention will need to be paid to discover the lastest and greatest.

Who can afford to pay the prices of TR relics today knowing they are probably fakes. 95% who would like to collect will not do so because it is impossible for them to know if it is a reproduction or an original. Buying TR items is becoming a very dicy proposition.

It's starting to get spooky out there! The influx of repros is almost enough to rurn me away from the hobby. Like I said, almost Thank goodness the sword market hasn't really been hit hard yet. A couple of degens and some crumby Lufts, but that about it.

Hi all. Sorry for the delay but I've been away from the Computer. I'm the one selling on speedbid but with no luck so far. It was the front langet that I referred to as having no pebbling. They're actually from a friend in Austria who does all the better examples such as DRK leader, DLV, TeNo leader, Postschutz and miniatures of these.

Terry you can send them to me if you would like me to re-size them for posting.
Do you know where they are originating from?

More models to come after i get back from work.
Certainly this selection of reproductions represents a considerable investment in manufacture & surely many will be appearing on the market. they appear to be of much better quality than many we have seen before.

There is the triangular RAD logo plus 'Ges Gesch' on the reverse of the blade. There are even 'Eickhorn' logos on the inside of the numbered TeNo grip plates.
