These are cool. They turn up from time to time, but sadly in economic crisis times I have heard of them being melted down for scrap value.

I never saw the watch kit one, but I would guess more modern. I'll call a friend that does more AAF stuff, he probably knows. Who is the maker on the watch?

Talked to my friend, the watch one is also a WW2 vintage for the Pacific Theater. These were sold as surplus by the government in the 1980s, mainly to collectors. But because of the gold value they weren't cheap even then. Thankfully our Gov't didn't melt them down.

Hi I don't want to ruffle any feathers as that is not my intent but is that watch, which appears to be an Omega, really from 1940 to 1945 in vintage? I am just seeking feedback. I collect USAAF items and have some period timepieces, British, American, and Canadian. I never pass on an opportunity to acquire a good American period watch but this looks to be a circa 1960s to early 1970s timepiece. Omega was one of the period premiere watches and if period could be worth a fair price. thanks and cheers, Ryan

Could the watch be a replacement to the set?
I would expect a military watch.
Kudos Paul, very neat and interesting kits.

I don't think I've seen any of these - or if I saw them I didn't know what they were. Neat stuff.

thanks for the feedback. the watch is the watch made for the case, there is no doubt,it fits perfect. the fellow i got them from bought them at a goverment auction years ago on impulse never tampered with them. put them in a deposit box and forgot about them till a few weeks ago.anyway i am sure the watch is original to the kit, as strange as it seems-even to me.thanks paul

The 21 jewel Swiss made watch & cloth band is what was included. These were designed for trade, not to wear and would not be GI issue. And these kits were not given out on every mission, and were strictly accounted for when the flyers made it back safely. Very cool kits!

At least a couple of kits were not that closely accounted for Big Grin
