I have a 1st mod.luft. Eickhorn w/ aluminum fittings the pommel will unscrew until it reaches the top near the tang could this be solder from the swas. The grip is a little loose is the reason why I'm trying to remove the pommel to shorten the tang a little. I also have a dark SA grip I want to stain or color ebony black any sugestions.

I would think you have a bit of rust on the end of the tang. Normally, the swazs are in the pommel before it's put on. Unscrew the pommel as far as you can, hold the grip away from the pommel, and put oil on the tang. Screw it down, then unscrew, trying to work the oil higher on the tang. Repeat until it comes off. As to the grip, depending on how it was finished, it may well not take a stain unless you lightly sand through the original finish. Be careful not to dish the button and eagle holes

Thanks Vern that did the trick, I used PB Penatrating catalyst came off in 30 seconds of working it back and forth. As for the grip I decieded to leave it alone and find a original grip to fit a Klass SS blade I have. Thank You E.Wien
