This gal is a recent addition to the collection. It came from a fellow collector who had to make room for his new acquisitions.
This cavalry lionhead has nearly 100% of her gilt intact. Sharksking grip and grip wiring rates nearly at 100%. Scabbard, with dual suspension rings rates probably around 90%, and the blade, complete with cavalry etch motif, rates excellent. Some very light dark spots, which with some gentle love can be removed. Frosting in etch is immaculate.
Overall, this is an excellent example. It will find a very comfortable place in the collection. The seller was eager to move her and thusly, she came below market value. Again, a wonderful addition to my saber collection.

Tom, While I would put it squarely into the "Imperial" category myself, that is a very nice looking lion head! My compliments. FP

Hi Fred, Thank you for the kind words.
I tend to agree with you about era nomenclature. I believe a more accurate time frame reference would have been pre-WW1 era. Clearly, this would qualify as Imperial Era. I chose the incorrect reference.
It's a nice one. Very well made, no issues with fit, and the structural integrity of the piece is still intact. She's solid as a rock.

Congrats Tom !! That is a beauty In my opinion , weimar pieces have a lot more intricate details than the NS pieces. Can you tell me what cleaning agents you use to clean the dark spots ? Cheers, Ibrahim, Singapore

Tom,
Is there a maker or distributor marking on the sword?

Hi George- No there's not. Only the Ges Gesch copyright stamping under the crossguard. It reminds me very much of how Eickhorn stamps some of thier hilts. Beside that, nada.
Tom

My Eickhorn catalog dated 1933 shows a saber virtually identical to yours described as an "offizier sabel" with a model number of 454. Scan from catalog follows. I hope this helps. Joe S

Thank you for the post Joe.
I suspect the piece is an Eickhorn, but can't be sure. The scabbard has dual suspension rings. Othersie, looks very similiar to the 454 in the catalog.
