The third Reich time period with Herman Goring at the helm has certainly brought out a lot of desirable and collectable hunting daggers and cutlasses, but closely guarded lands of the lords, kings or what have you gave the hirschfangers an elegant hunting look and feel in their time period. Most of these pieces I am referring to are few and far between as they were usually special made.

I want to thank TKissinger (Terry) from the DCN forum for bringing to light the new digital camera. I hope the close up photos I am trying for the first time of the cross guards come out alright. It sure is going to give everyone a closer look at special features in the future.

I am very sorry about the extral large size pictures. Sometimes it seems like the hurrier I go the slower I get. A complete new high speed computer and an old slow speed mind just cannot seem to get together all of the time. Well HAPPY NEW YEAR and hope you enjoy collecting Forestry and Hunting daggers;

Mikee- you wanted to know about cites for finding Hirschfangers. I will show you or tell you how the cookie crumbles. There are a few good auctions in Europe that come up most of the time with very nice daggers of all types including Hirschfangers. One is Czerny’s in Italy and one is Hermann’s in Germany. I am hopefully attaching a couple of photographs from Czerny’s last auction. This particular Hirschfanger sold for 3800 euro dollars. That means it cost $5’591.69 UNITED STATES DOLLARS. Next you have a 20% auction house commission to add to that. I transfer funds via bank transfers and it usually runs $45.00 up. Now they are ready to ship and package your winning prize. It will have to go through Customs and hold on to your hat because you never know what that will run. So to ship it and insure it and send it FEDEX somewhere in time about a month you will received your package and hopefully your daggers are not hanging out of the package that Customs took apart to see what was inside. FEDEX charges about $150 to $350 depending on how strong they had it packaged. After you have done this a few times you wonder why you bothered to go through this drill for a dagger. But then again you are happy to receive it after what you have gone through. Their catalogues are usually $85.00 to $350.00 depending if you buy the whole series like they put out at Hermann’s Auction. If you do order the catalogues you will be happy with them as they are like a memorabilia history book and excellent quality and some are hard covered. You have done all this from a small photograph from a catalogue or from your computer screen. I forgot to add the long distant phone calls to Italy and Germany.

That sounds right. Because of the exchange I have not bought overseas much. Sometimes there are some great things in the U.S.
